Using a Primer and Setting Powder has been a 2019 new addition to my makeup routine. I have been shopping around to find the right one and its been a learning curve so to speak.
So let me first tell you about my skin type, I have sensitive skin that is oily around the t zone and dry. I also have enlarged pores and some acne scaring. So getting my makeup to sit comfortably without any bumps can be hard. The other issue I have is my makeup transferring which is super annoying (I have learnt to not touch my face too much as I always end up with residue of my foundation).
Now I heard that using a primer and setting powder helps with your makeup to last and stay in place. So on a recent trip to SpaceNK I can across travel size of the Hourglass Primer Veil and Setting Powder. I purchased both and tested them out for a month.
The Hourglass Veil Primer is a oil free primer that’s meant to conceal redness, minimise fine lines/pores and create a veil like shield on your skin to help foundation to stick and last all day. The texture of this primer is a thin, unscented liquid that has SPF. You will only need a little amount here as it goes a long way. I found 2 pumps more than enough. This primer truly helped to minimise my pores and fill in all those little lines around my eyes. It also made my foundation really stick to my skin. However. the downside of this product was that after a few hours my makeup looked shiny especially around my cheeks. So had to use blotting paper to stop the oil.
The Hourglass Veil Setting Powder this is a talc free translucent powder thats made from finely milled powder that helps to set foundation, minimise pores, blurs out any imperfections, allows no flashback and above all leaves your skin feeling soft and matt. The only downside I found from this product was the fact that the packaging, as pretty as it is once I opened the top of the container I got powder everywhere. It took me a while to master this part. The best part was the fact that the product actually worked, my pores and lines were gone and my foundation looked beautifullyeven and lasted all day.
Overall I am happy with the setting powder and would repurchase (even with its hefty price tag) but the search for the perfect primer continues.
