Once a year every year the wonderful background of the French Reverie transforms to play host to the talented and famous to exhibit wonderful indie films aka Cannes Film Festival.
However the festival is not all about movies, award ceremonies and film openings. Big fashion houses and high end brands use this opportunity to promote and showcase their brand ambassadors as well as their products.
Nearly all social Media platforms have been inundated with beautiful pictures of great dresses and game changing styles.
Shamefully, I cant help but lust after some of these pieces.
So here is me recounting some of my fav all time Cannes Red Carpet Fashion moments.
Kendall Jenner wearing Giambattista Valli in 2017 at the Cannes Red Carpet. Its so simple yet structured, I love the way the short dress is balanced by the flowing train of fabric. Her makeup and hair are on point to emphasis a simple yet natural look.
Charlize Theron in Christian Dior Couture in 2015 Cannes Red Carpet. I am a firm believer that there are not many people in the world who can carry off the colour orange or yellow. Yet Charlize Theron makes it seem effortless. The dress a bright yellow number is all old school glamour yet daring and bold.
Aishwariya Rai Bachchan wearing Michael Cinco in 2017 at Cannes Red Carpet. Serious Cindrella / Sleeping Beauty vibes going on here. I mean the dress is a dream and almost takes you to a place where fairies exists- ok going off on one here but the whole look is made true by the simple makeup and hair down style.
Deepika Padukone in Rohit Blaz in 2013 at Cannes Red Carpet. Its not everyday that you see a saree at a red carpet event especially at an international film festival. This white and gold saree is traditional yet simple enough to wear without looking like you are attending your best friends wedding. Also I feel the saree is more than just making a fashion statement its also saying a lot about the Indian culture and bringing it to the international domain.
Gwen Stefani wearing Armani Prive in 2011 on the Cannes Red Carpet. Now if there was any dress that was a true representative of the personality of the individual wearing it – this would be it. We all know Gwen Stefani as the punk/rock chic of our time. This slim lines of the dress the monochrome colour combo of the fabric and not forgetting that exaggerated eye makeup together with her signature platimun blond hairstyle – yes yes yes!
Sonam Kappor wearing Elie Saab in 2017 Cannes Red Carpet. Its pink, its flirty, its delicate- when I first seen this dress I was in love with the way the delicate details of the dress was balanced by the matrix looking hand bracelet.
Blake Lively wearing Gucci in 2014 at Cannes Red Carpet. When in doubt go for old school glamour and in this case a Gucci Monochrome dress paired by statement diamond jewellery, bold red nails and lips to match the classic side sweep hair up do.
I have always found that red carpet events are a great place to feel inspired on what new trends and styles are making their way. It also helps to inspire what your own style might be like.
Have there been any dresses that have caught your eye at any of Cannes Film Festivals?
