My Everyday Makeup Routine

Wow its been a while (she says looking at the date of her last blog post) but what better way to return then with a blog post of my most for my everyday makeup products.

Now I never was a big fan of makeup and growing up I was more of a tomboy than a girly girl, but with age comes health and in particular skin issues. For me today there are two reasons I wear makeup – 1. to cover up the white patches I have caused by Vitiligo, 2. well sometimes you need that little bit of colour that can only be ascertained by the right blusher or lipstick.

Now finding the right type of foundation colour, the correct lipstick and a blusher that does not make you look like a complete clown is a minefield in itself. However over the years thanks to a gazzlion your tube tutorials and countless visits to beauty counters I have managed to narrow down my own fail safe makeup products that consistently deliver come what may.

First step in any makeup routine is prepping the skin (please see my skincare post ).

After the lovely people at Estee Lauder decided to discontinue my favourite foundation it took my ages to find an equivalent. The main thing i look for in my foundation is that it needs to be able to cover the pigmentation on my face yet still not be caked, matt and light.

In comes No7 Beautifully Matte liquid foundation in the colour Deeply Honey, I have been using this foundation for 3 years straight now and it does exactly act i need it to do, provide full coverage yet bot feel heavy on my skin its light, easy to apply with a beauty blender or a foundation brush. I have never had to do any touch ups and it stays in place.

I use two different types of concealers for different areas- for my under eye i use holy grail Touche Eclat by Yves Saint Laurent its a lighter consistency and leaves no crease marks also provides a brightening effect. For any other spots, scars and pigmentation i use the No7 Match Made Concealer in Deeply Honey this is a slightly heavy cream stick consistency concealer so I try not use this often as it requires a little work to blend it

From Left to Right- No7 Matte Foundation in Deeply Honey, No7 Match Made Concealer in Deeply Honey and YSL Touche Eclat in 4.5

Contouring & Highlighting

I am a big fan of 2 in one products anything that saves space in the hand bag sign me up. So the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Fair/Medium this product for me is a game changer. I know there is always a big hype around any product that CT releases but the hype is true. I have been using this to do my contouring under my cheekbone around my nose. the colour is perfect not too dark and not too light that it would get lost in my foundation. the product is in a powder form but goes on like dream. the second part of the compact has the highlighter which is also in powder, the highlighter is more on the golden side rather than a silver metallic look. I use this to emphasis the centre of my nose, the tops of my cheekbones and the cupid bow. It leaves a very golden goddess look.

Both Nars and Chanel do the best blushers I rotate between them depending on the season. Spring/Summer a pinky Nars colour in Orgasmic and in Autumn/Winter Chanel Peachy colour called Reflex.
There is something quite unique about Nars blushers they delivery a powerful amount of colour with only a stoke. The other great thing is the colour lasts until the end of the day.

Retouch Powder

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Instant Retouch Powder Compact is a press powder I use sometimes right after I have done my foundation or sometime i just carry this and use it to do touch ups. This copact does not come any different colours, the one colour suites all and for me i have noticed that its helps my foundation last especially in hot conditions. If you suffer from oily skin or hate that shine and prefer matt look this is a must.

Once i have curled my eyelashes with Shu UemuraI go in with first No7 Lash Impact Lash Primer this is a slightly thinner wand and is basically good for separating and defining the individual eye lashes. Its basically like a top coat for your lashes.
After this I go in with the infamous too faced Better than Sex Mascara, this is a mascara that gives volume and thickness to the eyelashes. I have slightly sensitive eyes and neither of these products shed any mascara residue and are kind to my eyes.

Lip Liner

For my lips i begin by first lining my lips with Loreal Lip Liner in Antic Rose this is a pinky nude colour. Its a perfect all rounder and a close match to my natural lip colour.

Final step my all time favourite Tom Ford Matt lipstick in Pussycat, this is the perfect nudey pink colour and lasts all day. It literally makes your lips so moisturised and its so pigmented. I note to make here this lipstick is a little on the expensive side £40 a pop but its worth every last penny.

This has been my go to makeup for quite a while now and I only chop and chang with the lipstick depending on the occasion.

Do any of my readers have a favourite makeup products that they keep going back to?

  1. That lipstick is calling my name! I never been a makeup lover before, but I guess with age comes changes 😜 My makeup products I keep on going back to would be Wet n Wild E968 lipstick, Essence lip gloss, Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo lash mascara and L.A Girl pro conceal HD in porcelain 😊 I mainly always uses these products.

  2. I hate it when brands discontinue my favourites. Soooo annoying. Anyways, I have a quite a bit of pigmentation on my right cheek *LOL* (like 3 times more than my left, seriously imbalanced look). Have you tried Marc Jacobs reMarcable foundation? It cover everything and doesn’t cake on me. I’ve done some macro (less than 5cm shots from my face) to show how the foundation look.
